Steve Freund was in charge of the backing band for Otis’ last performance at San Francisco Blues Festival and with the very first guitar strum, my mind was blown. A bolt of lightening went from the top of my head out the bottom of my feet. How could anyone be this intense? An experience I’ll always remember, and always be grateful for. This transcendence is what we live for playing music. It keeps us driving, staying up late, playing shows that any smart business person would refuse, spending hours working at our instruments to hone our ears and skills. We live for this and Otis lived it.
